5-Webinar Training Series:

Motivational Interviewing to Engage and Support Fathers

This 5-webinar series will address multiple challenging situations with families and demonstrate how specific Motivational Interviewing (MI) strategies help facilitate father engagement.

Examples of using MI in the family context:

     - How to collaboratively assess fathers’ roles in the family

       and in caregiving

     - Drawing out fathers’ motivations toward family

     - Bridging the gap between fathers’ goals/values and

       caregiving involvement

Module 1: Understanding the roots of parent motivation, where motivation comes from, what makes for lasting motivation, and how to nurture fathers’ motivation and participation in the context of family

Module 2: Connecting caregiver behavior to personal/family values and goals related to child development

Module 3: Assessing caregiver readiness and increasing commitment to caregiver-child interaction

Module 4: Using the MI style of giving information and sharing concerns to increase  caregiver buy-in, motivation, and commitment to engage in tasks related to goals like school readiness

Module 5: Using MI planning strategies to strengthen family/father commitment to reaching developmental milestones

The 2-hour Webinars are live, interactive, and led by Karin Wilson, President of Theory to Action, a Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) Trainer for the past 20 years, along with a MINT co-trainer.

A Certificate: Motivational Interviewing to Engage Fathers will be provided to registrants who complete all five modules.
